Description
With a nod to the sleek geometric style that the 70rsquo;s had to offer; the Spiddal Accent Chair has had a modern update with that classic Orla look. The tapered solid wood legs supports the gorgeous angular armchair, which features a feather topped foam cushion base for a luxuriously comfortable sit. The Spiddal Chair is available in the gorgeous Spring Stem pattern, adding to the sumptuous comfort thanks to the soft chenille used.
Our Stylist Says
I’m a fan of the Spiddal accent chair in Orla Kiely’s poppy print because it instantly lifts a neutral scheme with its warm, terracotta and chocolate tones, yet remains versatile enough to sit happily alongside mid-century or contemporary décor. The compact, squared-off frame makes it ideal for a cosy reading corner or as a statement piece in a larger seating arrangement, and the hard-wearing cotton mix upholstery means it’ll stand up to daily use. For styling, pair it with a simple woollen throw in a complementary terracotta or mustard shade to soften the graphic pattern, and position it next to a slimline wooden side table or tripod lamp to balance the chair’s heft. It also works well against a pale, matt-finish wall so that the print really pops without overwhelming the room.

About Barker and Stonehouse
A Remarkable Journey
Born from the vision of two young RAF men, Charles Barker and Alex Stonehouse, Barker and Stonehouse emerged as a beacon of hope, infusing post-war Britain with a hint of glamour. Starting from a single store in Stockton on Tees, their entrepreneurial spirit led to rapid expansion, opening multiple stores across the region.
Their fast growth was fueled not only by their flair for business but also by their dedication to innovation. The business transformed over the years, adapting to the changing landscapes of retail, all while preserving its charm and values. By 2021, they marked an impressive 75 years in the industry, a testament to their enduring commitment to quality and customer service.
Sustainability at the Forefront
From the very start, Barker and Stonehouse has held a deep commitment to the environment. This devotion was showcased through initiatives such as the Trees4Trees Project, a reforestation effort in Indonesia.
Ensuring that for every tree used in their products, more than two were replanted, nearly 1.5 million trees have been restored under this initiative.
Their Knaresborough store, one of the greenest retail stores in the UK, further underscores their dedication to sustainable practices. As a cherry on top, by 2021, the company achieved the status of "Carbon Neutral Plus", making them a trailblazer in the furniture industry.
Innovative Spaces and Expanding Horizons
Over the decades, Barker and Stonehouse didn't just expand in number, but in the quality and innovation of their spaces. From opening their iconic store in Battersea, London, which beautifully preserved the characteristics of an old candle factory, to their latest state-of-the-art Gateshead store in 2023, every location tells a story.
They have also ventured into digital realms, ensuring a vast online presence and offering a wide range of products to customers all over the UK. Their partnerships, like the one with Fenwick in 2021, illustrate their adaptability and constant quest to reach new audiences.
