Description

The Antique Painted Pine Grey Console Table would have originally been an altar table in classic Ming style. Traditionally, this type of table served as a focal point for family rituals, positioned beneath a family ancestor portrait, it provided a platform for paying respects. Fragrant joss sticks, once lit, would be placed on the table, symbolizing well-being, and admiration for the household's ancestry. Painted in grey with a distressed finish revealing glimpses of the underlying wood grain, adding to its charm and unique appearance. Add a fresh oriental feel to your dining room or hallway, ensuring you add personality to the room by placing lamps and elegant accessories atop.

Our Stylist Says

I really like this one-of-a-kind song console because of its sleek, minimal design and versatile grey finish, making it an easy fit in a variety of interiors. It works particularly well in contemporary, industrial, or rustic schemes, adding an understated elegance while providing practical surface space. When styling, consider layering with a mix of modern and vintage accessories-think table lamps, decorative trays, or a few plants to bring it to life. Its proportions make it ideal behind a sofa, in an entryway, or as a feature in a living room; just keep the surface uncluttered for a clean, curated look. The construction and colour also make it durable enough for daily use, making it as practical as it is stylish.

About Barker and Stonehouse

Founded in 1946, Barker and Stonehouse offer a diverse range of stylish and timeless pieces. From contemporary to traditional designs, Barker and Stonehouse brings sophistication and comfort to every room.

A Remarkable Journey

Born from the vision of two young RAF men, Charles Barker and Alex Stonehouse, Barker and Stonehouse emerged as a beacon of hope, infusing post-war Britain with a hint of glamour. Starting from a single store in Stockton on Tees, their entrepreneurial spirit led to rapid expansion, opening multiple stores across the region.

Their fast growth was fueled not only by their flair for business but also by their dedication to innovation. The business transformed over the years, adapting to the changing landscapes of retail, all while preserving its charm and values. By 2021, they marked an impressive 75 years in the industry, a testament to their enduring commitment to quality and customer service.

Sustainability at the Forefront

From the very start, Barker and Stonehouse has held a deep commitment to the environment. This devotion was showcased through initiatives such as the Trees4Trees Project, a reforestation effort in Indonesia.

Ensuring that for every tree used in their products, more than two were replanted, nearly 1.5 million trees have been restored under this initiative.

Their Knaresborough store, one of the greenest retail stores in the UK, further underscores their dedication to sustainable practices. As a cherry on top, by 2021, the company achieved the status of "Carbon Neutral Plus", making them a trailblazer in the furniture industry.

Innovative Spaces and Expanding Horizons

Over the decades, Barker and Stonehouse didn't just expand in number, but in the quality and innovation of their spaces. From opening their iconic store in Battersea, London, which beautifully preserved the characteristics of an old candle factory, to their latest state-of-the-art Gateshead store in 2023, every location tells a story.

They have also ventured into digital realms, ensuring a vast online presence and offering a wide range of products to customers all over the UK. Their partnerships, like the one with Fenwick in 2021, illustrate their adaptability and constant quest to reach new audiences.
