Description
The vivid and colourful design of our Farva Rug is handwoven on an authentic and traditional Kilim loom, just like the designs that have inspired it. It features rich reds, pale blues and bright golds in bold motifs that are framed by a geometric border and a neutral fringe. The origins of kilims range from Balkan regions through to Northern Africa, which is what makes them complementary to so many design styles. They have been used for millennia to bring warmth, decoration and communication through their colourful symbolic motifs. Kilims differ from knotted rugs as they are interwoven from variously coloured wefts (horizontal yarns) and warps (vertical yarns) to create a flatwoven tapestry rug with no pile. They often have stepped, diagonal patterns which are formed through their distinct weaving technique in which the yarn turns around the warp where the colour changes, rather than running across the full width of the piece.
