The largest piece in a short series of small botanical paintings, this time created using a mix of oil and crayon on canvas. Philip Maltman is an abstract artist shortlisted for the John Moores Painting Prize. Born in Ayrshire, a historic county on the coast of Scotland, he is known for exploring the littoral zone through his work - the area of shoreline where the sea meets the land.
I love how the October Petals ’21 IV brings a pop of colour and a touch of organic charm to any space. It works particularly well in contemporary or understated interiors where it can serve as a focal point, but it also complements more eclectic or boho schemes thanks to its painterly quality. When styling this piece, consider pairing it with soft neutrals or muted tones in your furniture to let the artwork stand out. Hanging it at eye level in a living room or a bedroom creates an inviting, relaxed vibe, while adding a simple frame can help it look more polished. It’s a versatile piece that can easily elevate both minimalist and more layered interiors.
