I’m a big fan of these light oak flare-back chairs because their simple button-tufted backs and neutral grey upholstery suit a wide range of schemes without overwhelming the space. The pale oak legs bring warmth and pair neatly with whitewashed or natural-wood floors, making them ideal for Scandi-inspired, coastal or relaxed modern interiors.
To style, mix them around a pale timber table and layer in a natural-fibre rug for texture. If you want extra comfort, add a slim linen cushion in muted tones or even swap in a patterned seat pad for a pop of subtle colour. They’re sturdy enough for everyday dining but smart enough to double as occasional desk or hallway seating too.

In 1980, Chris Dawson set up a simple open-air market stall in Plymouth.
