Description

The Xiola hemp and jute rug blends two of our favourite eco friendly materials, jute and hemp. The subtle contemporary design of this rug incorporates gentle hues with natural tones and soft sea greens. Hemp and jute are both durable and strong and this rug feels thick and soft underfoot. Its understated tones and design make it easy to place in a variety of interior schemes.

Our Stylist Says

I love this rug for its natural, understated appeal and versatile texture, making it a great addition to both boho and contemporary interiors. Its hemp and jute composition adds a tactile, organic feel that works well in neutral colour palettes or layered with other natural fibres. It's ideal for living rooms or open-plan spaces where you want a relaxed, inviting vibe. Practical styling tips include pairing it with rattan or wooden furniture and adding textured cushions or throws to enhance its earthy aesthetic. Because of its natural fibres, it’s best suited for low to moderate traffic areas and is easy to dress up with other earthy-toned accessories for a cohesive look.

About Nkuku

Established in 2003, Nkuku offers ethically sourced, handcrafted, and eco-friendly homewares and furniture. Their pieces introduce an element of rustic elegance to your space, perfect for creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

The Story of Nkuku

Inspired by the artisans they met during a world trip in 2002, Ali and Alex established Nkuku, a brand that celebrates handmade techniques and traditional skills from artisans across the world.

The journey began with a business plan drafted on a beach, with the name "Nkuku" taken from a Zambian village they passed.

Starting in Devon, they initially sold products from their travels at local markets. Eventually, Nkuku transitioned from a wholesale business to a known retail brand, offering a wide range of homewares, from tableware to furniture.

Values and Ethical Commitment

Nkuku is not just about selling products; it's about values. They are committed to an ethical approach, partnering with independent businesses, social projects, and cooperatives. Their focus? Building transparent, strong relationships with suppliers to ensure mutual success.

They're also environmentally conscious, incorporating natural and recycled materials into their products. From golden hemp and reclaimed mango wood to textiles recycled from old t-shirts, Nkuku champions sustainability and eco-friendly production methods.

Sustainability at Its Heart

Every Nkuku product tells a tale, capturing the essence of traditional, handmade craftsmanship. By embracing low-impact production methods, they bring collections that are individually crafted, ensuring each piece is unique.

The brand cherishes the age-old knowledge passed down through generations of artisans. It's not just about home décor for them; it's about keeping a rich heritage alive and celebrating the beauty of handmade uniqueness.
