Description

Our unique Vinay counter chair is hand-carved from mango wood with beautifully woven jute panelling on the seat and back, adding both detail and comfort. Generously yet elegantly proportioned, it brings a warm and textured aesthetic to a bar or kitchen setting, but would look equally at home in a covered outdoor bar area. A relaxed piece whose craftsmanship reveals sophistication through its simplicity. Please note, a and is also available in the range.

Our Stylist Says

I’m a big fan of the Vinay stool for its straightforward design and natural woven seat - it feels both durable and inviting. The pale oak frame and neutral fibres make it a go-to choice for Scandi-inspired kitchens, relaxed coastal homes or any space where you want to introduce a light, tactile element without overwhelming the room. For styling, pair it with a raw timber or painted island in soft grey or off-white, then layer a simple sheepskin or linen cushion for comfort and contrast. Group two or three along a counter, add some low-profile greenery in earthenware pots and you’ll achieve an effortless, lived-in look that works just as well for morning coffee as it does for evening gatherings.

About Nkuku

Established in 2003, Nkuku offers ethically sourced, handcrafted, and eco-friendly homewares and furniture. Their pieces introduce an element of rustic elegance to your space, perfect for creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

The Story of Nkuku

Inspired by the artisans they met during a world trip in 2002, Ali and Alex established Nkuku, a brand that celebrates handmade techniques and traditional skills from artisans across the world.

The journey began with a business plan drafted on a beach, with the name "Nkuku" taken from a Zambian village they passed.

Starting in Devon, they initially sold products from their travels at local markets. Eventually, Nkuku transitioned from a wholesale business to a known retail brand, offering a wide range of homewares, from tableware to furniture.

Values and Ethical Commitment

Nkuku is not just about selling products; it's about values. They are committed to an ethical approach, partnering with independent businesses, social projects, and cooperatives. Their focus? Building transparent, strong relationships with suppliers to ensure mutual success.

They're also environmentally conscious, incorporating natural and recycled materials into their products. From golden hemp and reclaimed mango wood to textiles recycled from old t-shirts, Nkuku champions sustainability and eco-friendly production methods.

Sustainability at Its Heart

Every Nkuku product tells a tale, capturing the essence of traditional, handmade craftsmanship. By embracing low-impact production methods, they bring collections that are individually crafted, ensuring each piece is unique.

The brand cherishes the age-old knowledge passed down through generations of artisans. It's not just about home décor for them; it's about keeping a rich heritage alive and celebrating the beauty of handmade uniqueness.
