Description

Rustic, sturdy and thoughtfully designed as a versatile and hard-working stand alone kitchen unit, our Tivu butcher’s block uses reclaimed wooden ceiling beams from India where they are repurposed and handcrafted to create this unique and timeless piece. Sanded and lightly finished with a white wash, the mixed woods are harmonised in appearance yet still allow for subtle variations in tone and grain to shine through. Two shelves, two drawers and 4 iron hooks offer multiple storage options to keep a kitchen thoroughly organised, while lending it a laidback farmhouse aesthetic. Castors are included and can be added to the piece by our nkuku fitters on delivery if desired.

Our Stylist Says

I’m a fan of the Nkuku butcher’s block for its honest use of reclaimed wood and sturdy, on-castor design. Its natural patina adds instant warmth and texture, making it a versatile island or prep station in smaller kitchens. It works equally well in farmhouse, Scandi-minimal or industrial schemes. Keep styling pared back - perhaps a trio of terracotta planters, a woven bread basket and a couple of enamel pots on the shelf below. The built-in hooks take kitchen towels or aprons, while its mobility means you can wheel it out as a serving trolley when entertaining.

About Nkuku

Established in 2003, Nkuku offers ethically sourced, handcrafted, and eco-friendly homewares and furniture. Their pieces introduce an element of rustic elegance to your space, perfect for creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

The Story of Nkuku

Inspired by the artisans they met during a world trip in 2002, Ali and Alex established Nkuku, a brand that celebrates handmade techniques and traditional skills from artisans across the world.

The journey began with a business plan drafted on a beach, with the name "Nkuku" taken from a Zambian village they passed.

Starting in Devon, they initially sold products from their travels at local markets. Eventually, Nkuku transitioned from a wholesale business to a known retail brand, offering a wide range of homewares, from tableware to furniture.

Values and Ethical Commitment

Nkuku is not just about selling products; it's about values. They are committed to an ethical approach, partnering with independent businesses, social projects, and cooperatives. Their focus? Building transparent, strong relationships with suppliers to ensure mutual success.

They're also environmentally conscious, incorporating natural and recycled materials into their products. From golden hemp and reclaimed mango wood to textiles recycled from old t-shirts, Nkuku champions sustainability and eco-friendly production methods.

Sustainability at Its Heart

Every Nkuku product tells a tale, capturing the essence of traditional, handmade craftsmanship. By embracing low-impact production methods, they bring collections that are individually crafted, ensuring each piece is unique.

The brand cherishes the age-old knowledge passed down through generations of artisans. It's not just about home décor for them; it's about keeping a rich heritage alive and celebrating the beauty of handmade uniqueness.
