Description

The simple design of our Raunak woven bench combines a solid Acacia wood frame in a dark walnut finish, with a simple woven seat made from Munja grass for a comfortable understated look. Made by carefully weaving the strong fibres around a framework, this bench is created using traditional artisanal skills. Munja grass grows in abundance along India's riverbanks. It has traditionally been used to make ropes and baskets and is a durable natural material with rich eco-friendly credentials.

Our Stylist Says

I’m a fan of the Raunak bench for its mix of solid acacia and hand-woven detailing - it adds warmth without feeling heavy. It sits happily in a Scandi-inspired dining area, a relaxed boho hallway or even at the foot of a bed in a contemporary farmhouse scheme. For styling, layer a textured cushion or drape a lightweight throw across one end; on the opposite side a slim wooden tray with a small plant or favourite coffee-table books keeps it functional. Its neutral washed-walnut finish means you can swap accessories seasonally without having to rethink the whole look.

About Nkuku

Established in 2003, Nkuku offers ethically sourced, handcrafted, and eco-friendly homewares and furniture. Their pieces introduce an element of rustic elegance to your space, perfect for creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

The Story of Nkuku

Inspired by the artisans they met during a world trip in 2002, Ali and Alex established Nkuku, a brand that celebrates handmade techniques and traditional skills from artisans across the world.

The journey began with a business plan drafted on a beach, with the name "Nkuku" taken from a Zambian village they passed.

Starting in Devon, they initially sold products from their travels at local markets. Eventually, Nkuku transitioned from a wholesale business to a known retail brand, offering a wide range of homewares, from tableware to furniture.

Values and Ethical Commitment

Nkuku is not just about selling products; it's about values. They are committed to an ethical approach, partnering with independent businesses, social projects, and cooperatives. Their focus? Building transparent, strong relationships with suppliers to ensure mutual success.

They're also environmentally conscious, incorporating natural and recycled materials into their products. From golden hemp and reclaimed mango wood to textiles recycled from old t-shirts, Nkuku champions sustainability and eco-friendly production methods.

Sustainability at Its Heart

Every Nkuku product tells a tale, capturing the essence of traditional, handmade craftsmanship. By embracing low-impact production methods, they bring collections that are individually crafted, ensuring each piece is unique.

The brand cherishes the age-old knowledge passed down through generations of artisans. It's not just about home décor for them; it's about keeping a rich heritage alive and celebrating the beauty of handmade uniqueness.
