Description

The striking kilim design of our Pemali artwork makes it a truly eye-catching addition to your home. Handwoven on a traditional loom using centuries-old techniques, the skill and experience of the artisans is clear. Kilim is a form of weaving typically found across eastern Europe and central Asia, which produces distinctive flat tapestries with beautiful geometric patterns. This artwork comes with a simple mango wood outer frame which allows the colours and details to really shine.

Our Stylist Says

I love this wall art for its versatile, natural vibe that can complement a range of interiors, from boho to Scandinavian. The handwoven design adds texture and warmth, while the neutral tones of natural, rust, and charcoal make it easy to coordinate with both subtle and bold colour schemes. It works particularly well above console tables, in hallways, or even as a focal point in a small space. Practical styling tips include pairing it with layered lighting - like a table lamp or wall sconces - and keeping surrounding decor minimal to let the artwork stand out. Its compact size makes it a great choice for adding visual interest without overwhelming smaller walls.

About Nkuku

Established in 2003, Nkuku offers ethically sourced, handcrafted, and eco-friendly homewares and furniture. Their pieces introduce an element of rustic elegance to your space, perfect for creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

The Story of Nkuku

Inspired by the artisans they met during a world trip in 2002, Ali and Alex established Nkuku, a brand that celebrates handmade techniques and traditional skills from artisans across the world.

The journey began with a business plan drafted on a beach, with the name "Nkuku" taken from a Zambian village they passed.

Starting in Devon, they initially sold products from their travels at local markets. Eventually, Nkuku transitioned from a wholesale business to a known retail brand, offering a wide range of homewares, from tableware to furniture.

Values and Ethical Commitment

Nkuku is not just about selling products; it's about values. They are committed to an ethical approach, partnering with independent businesses, social projects, and cooperatives. Their focus? Building transparent, strong relationships with suppliers to ensure mutual success.

They're also environmentally conscious, incorporating natural and recycled materials into their products. From golden hemp and reclaimed mango wood to textiles recycled from old t-shirts, Nkuku champions sustainability and eco-friendly production methods.

Sustainability at Its Heart

Every Nkuku product tells a tale, capturing the essence of traditional, handmade craftsmanship. By embracing low-impact production methods, they bring collections that are individually crafted, ensuring each piece is unique.

The brand cherishes the age-old knowledge passed down through generations of artisans. It's not just about home décor for them; it's about keeping a rich heritage alive and celebrating the beauty of handmade uniqueness.
