We’ve considered every detail to ensure your made to order furniture provides comfort, longevity, and style. Handcrafted by specialists in our Nottinghamshire workshop, each piece is handmade to order using traditional techniques with exceptional craftmanship. Our upholstery fabrics are sourced from Italy’s finest mills and are chosen for their style and quality. We have selected a beautiful heavyweight, soft washed linen with an outstanding texture. Our linen is perfectly suited to upholstery, with an appealing natural, and tactile feel. It is also heavy and durable. The linen is FR treated for domestic upholstery ensuring peace of mind as well as meeting specialist UK furniture requirements. Please note, our white background cut-out photography is shown in Natural for shape and style reference. Fabric Swatch Ordering We recommend ordering fabric swatches before placing your order, giving you the chance to feel the fabric and see your colour choices within your own home. Our Stylist Says

The Nkuku Marri dining footstool is a versatile piece that works beautifully in both contemporary and traditional interiors. Its large size and soft linen upholstery make it ideal as a relaxed additional seating option or a generous footrest in living spaces. I love its understated elegance and how it can be seamlessly styled with both neutral and muted colour palettes, adding a touch of texture and comfort. Practical styling tips include pairing it with a cosy armchair or sofa for a lived-in look, and considering it as a stand-in for a side table by topping with a tray for drinks or accessories. Its sturdy construction and neutral hemp tones make it both functional and unobtrusive, perfect for creating a relaxed, inviting atmosphere.

About Nkuku

Established in 2003, Nkuku offers ethically sourced, handcrafted, and eco-friendly homewares and furniture. Their pieces introduce an element of rustic elegance to your space, perfect for creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

The Story of Nkuku

Inspired by the artisans they met during a world trip in 2002, Ali and Alex established Nkuku, a brand that celebrates handmade techniques and traditional skills from artisans across the world.

The journey began with a business plan drafted on a beach, with the name "Nkuku" taken from a Zambian village they passed.

Starting in Devon, they initially sold products from their travels at local markets. Eventually, Nkuku transitioned from a wholesale business to a known retail brand, offering a wide range of homewares, from tableware to furniture.

Values and Ethical Commitment

Nkuku is not just about selling products; it's about values. They are committed to an ethical approach, partnering with independent businesses, social projects, and cooperatives. Their focus? Building transparent, strong relationships with suppliers to ensure mutual success.

They're also environmentally conscious, incorporating natural and recycled materials into their products. From golden hemp and reclaimed mango wood to textiles recycled from old t-shirts, Nkuku champions sustainability and eco-friendly production methods.

Sustainability at Its Heart

Every Nkuku product tells a tale, capturing the essence of traditional, handmade craftsmanship. By embracing low-impact production methods, they bring collections that are individually crafted, ensuring each piece is unique.

The brand cherishes the age-old knowledge passed down through generations of artisans. It's not just about home décor for them; it's about keeping a rich heritage alive and celebrating the beauty of handmade uniqueness.
