Description

Perfect for atmospheric evenings, our stylish Kawani lantern has an elegant neck that slopes into a generous organic form and sits perfectly in its etched solid mango wood base. The contrasting glass and wood design creates a wonderfully tactile piece that brings understated style to a living space. Display on a sideboard or as a centrepiece to a table and style with our rustic pillar candles.

Our Stylist Says

I love this piece for its rustic charm and versatile appeal. The nkuku lantern's dark ash mango wood base adds warmth and texture, making it ideal for both contemporary and more traditional interiors. Its generous size lends itself well as a statement piece on sideboards, mantels, or as a centrepiece on a dining table. Practical styling tips include pairing it with a pillar candle for soft ambient lighting, or layering it with other textiles and natural materials for a cosy, hygge-inspired look. It also works beautifully in boho, farmhouse, or minimalist schemes, where its natural materials can truly shine. Just remember to consider the height and placement to ensure the candle’s glow enhances your space without overpowering it.

About Nkuku

Established in 2003, Nkuku offers ethically sourced, handcrafted, and eco-friendly homewares and furniture. Their pieces introduce an element of rustic elegance to your space, perfect for creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

The Story of Nkuku

Inspired by the artisans they met during a world trip in 2002, Ali and Alex established Nkuku, a brand that celebrates handmade techniques and traditional skills from artisans across the world.

The journey began with a business plan drafted on a beach, with the name "Nkuku" taken from a Zambian village they passed.

Starting in Devon, they initially sold products from their travels at local markets. Eventually, Nkuku transitioned from a wholesale business to a known retail brand, offering a wide range of homewares, from tableware to furniture.

Values and Ethical Commitment

Nkuku is not just about selling products; it's about values. They are committed to an ethical approach, partnering with independent businesses, social projects, and cooperatives. Their focus? Building transparent, strong relationships with suppliers to ensure mutual success.

They're also environmentally conscious, incorporating natural and recycled materials into their products. From golden hemp and reclaimed mango wood to textiles recycled from old t-shirts, Nkuku champions sustainability and eco-friendly production methods.

Sustainability at Its Heart

Every Nkuku product tells a tale, capturing the essence of traditional, handmade craftsmanship. By embracing low-impact production methods, they bring collections that are individually crafted, ensuring each piece is unique.

The brand cherishes the age-old knowledge passed down through generations of artisans. It's not just about home décor for them; it's about keeping a rich heritage alive and celebrating the beauty of handmade uniqueness.
