Description

The organic tactile forms of our Kalai ceramics collection are hand shaped in Portugal and make a perfect addition to any home, adding softness and interest to a display. The grooved surface is finished with a glaze that reacts in the kiln to create a naturally textured appearance that is unique to each piece. Easy to style, it fits with any interior scheme. Beautiful as a stand-alone sculptural piece or filled with dried flowers.

Our Stylist Says

This Nkuku Kalai vase is a versatile piece with a natural, organic shape that adds subtle texture and interest to a variety of interiors. I love how its neutral tones work well in both modern and rustic schemes, especially when paired with dried or fresh foliage for a simple, understated vignette. Its large size makes it perfect as a statement floor piece or on a mantle, where it can be paired with other natural materials like wood or woven textiles. For practical styling, try combining it with minimalist accessories to let its shape stand out, or group it with smaller vases or sculptures for a curated look. It’s a timeless addition that can easily adapt to different decor styles over time.

About Nkuku

Established in 2003, Nkuku offers ethically sourced, handcrafted, and eco-friendly homewares and furniture. Their pieces introduce an element of rustic elegance to your space, perfect for creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

The Story of Nkuku

Inspired by the artisans they met during a world trip in 2002, Ali and Alex established Nkuku, a brand that celebrates handmade techniques and traditional skills from artisans across the world.

The journey began with a business plan drafted on a beach, with the name "Nkuku" taken from a Zambian village they passed.

Starting in Devon, they initially sold products from their travels at local markets. Eventually, Nkuku transitioned from a wholesale business to a known retail brand, offering a wide range of homewares, from tableware to furniture.

Values and Ethical Commitment

Nkuku is not just about selling products; it's about values. They are committed to an ethical approach, partnering with independent businesses, social projects, and cooperatives. Their focus? Building transparent, strong relationships with suppliers to ensure mutual success.

They're also environmentally conscious, incorporating natural and recycled materials into their products. From golden hemp and reclaimed mango wood to textiles recycled from old t-shirts, Nkuku champions sustainability and eco-friendly production methods.

Sustainability at Its Heart

Every Nkuku product tells a tale, capturing the essence of traditional, handmade craftsmanship. By embracing low-impact production methods, they bring collections that are individually crafted, ensuring each piece is unique.

The brand cherishes the age-old knowledge passed down through generations of artisans. It's not just about home décor for them; it's about keeping a rich heritage alive and celebrating the beauty of handmade uniqueness.
