The smaller rug is still generously proportioned and is ideal for a or , while the bigger size will bring coherence to a larger living space. Available in two sizes.

Our Stylist Says

The nkuku Jala wool rug is a versatile piece that I love for its natural texture and understated colour palette, making it easy to style across a range of interiors. It works particularly well in neutral or muted-toned living spaces, adding warmth and softness underfoot without overpowering the décor. Practical styling tips include layering it over a larger, patterned rug for visual interest or pairing it with mid-century or rustic furniture for a cosy, inviting feel. Because of its natural material, it also lends itself well to casual or relaxed schemes, and is easy to incorporate in both modern and traditional settings. Being a wool rug, it’s durable and good for high-traffic areas, though it’s best to avoid spilling liquids on it to keep its appearance fresh.

About Nkuku

Established in 2003, Nkuku offers ethically sourced, handcrafted, and eco-friendly homewares and furniture. Their pieces introduce an element of rustic elegance to your space, perfect for creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

The Story of Nkuku

Inspired by the artisans they met during a world trip in 2002, Ali and Alex established Nkuku, a brand that celebrates handmade techniques and traditional skills from artisans across the world.

The journey began with a business plan drafted on a beach, with the name "Nkuku" taken from a Zambian village they passed.

Starting in Devon, they initially sold products from their travels at local markets. Eventually, Nkuku transitioned from a wholesale business to a known retail brand, offering a wide range of homewares, from tableware to furniture.

Values and Ethical Commitment

Nkuku is not just about selling products; it's about values. They are committed to an ethical approach, partnering with independent businesses, social projects, and cooperatives. Their focus? Building transparent, strong relationships with suppliers to ensure mutual success.

They're also environmentally conscious, incorporating natural and recycled materials into their products. From golden hemp and reclaimed mango wood to textiles recycled from old t-shirts, Nkuku champions sustainability and eco-friendly production methods.

Sustainability at Its Heart

Every Nkuku product tells a tale, capturing the essence of traditional, handmade craftsmanship. By embracing low-impact production methods, they bring collections that are individually crafted, ensuring each piece is unique.

The brand cherishes the age-old knowledge passed down through generations of artisans. It's not just about home décor for them; it's about keeping a rich heritage alive and celebrating the beauty of handmade uniqueness.
