Description

Originally our Gurdisha wall art formed door panels from homes in the central desert region of India. Now the highly decorative reclaimed wood and iron pieces would make a bold and striking feature in a living space. The faded tones and uneven paint and metal finishes mean they complement a variety of interior schemes and create an eye catching scene without detracting from other pieces.

Our Stylist Says

I love this piece for its natural, rustic charm-it's a versatile addition that works well in both contemporary and boho interiors. The use of reclaimed wood adds texture and warmth, making it perfect as a statement wall art or a functional clock or mirror in living rooms, bedrooms, or hallways. When styling, consider pairing it with other natural materials like jute or linen to enhance its earthy appeal. For a balanced look, keep surrounding decor minimal to let the natural grain and craftsmanship shine through. This piece also lends itself well to creating a cosy, inviting atmosphere while adding an interesting focal point to the space.

About Nkuku

Established in 2003, Nkuku offers ethically sourced, handcrafted, and eco-friendly homewares and furniture. Their pieces introduce an element of rustic elegance to your space, perfect for creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

The Story of Nkuku

Inspired by the artisans they met during a world trip in 2002, Ali and Alex established Nkuku, a brand that celebrates handmade techniques and traditional skills from artisans across the world.

The journey began with a business plan drafted on a beach, with the name "Nkuku" taken from a Zambian village they passed.

Starting in Devon, they initially sold products from their travels at local markets. Eventually, Nkuku transitioned from a wholesale business to a known retail brand, offering a wide range of homewares, from tableware to furniture.

Values and Ethical Commitment

Nkuku is not just about selling products; it's about values. They are committed to an ethical approach, partnering with independent businesses, social projects, and cooperatives. Their focus? Building transparent, strong relationships with suppliers to ensure mutual success.

They're also environmentally conscious, incorporating natural and recycled materials into their products. From golden hemp and reclaimed mango wood to textiles recycled from old t-shirts, Nkuku champions sustainability and eco-friendly production methods.

Sustainability at Its Heart

Every Nkuku product tells a tale, capturing the essence of traditional, handmade craftsmanship. By embracing low-impact production methods, they bring collections that are individually crafted, ensuring each piece is unique.

The brand cherishes the age-old knowledge passed down through generations of artisans. It's not just about home décor for them; it's about keeping a rich heritage alive and celebrating the beauty of handmade uniqueness.
