Description

The Bunaken reclaimed wood bowl first started out life in India as a bowl used for kneading dough. The chunky wooden design has a sturdy rustic quality that is enrichened with the dark brown tone of the finish. A reclaimed piece makes a striking decorative accessory, it has a unique weathered quality that only a reclaimed item can have. The Bunaken displays beautifully on a coffee table, making a focal point for the table but there are so many other uses, from holding keys on a hallway console to holding fruit on a kitchen island. The bowl was originally hand carved and is appealingly irregular. The reclaimed nature means that no two are the same and sizes will vary.

Our Stylist Says

The Nkuku Bunaken bowl is a versatile piece that adds warmth and character to rustic or bohemian-style interiors. I love its dark stain finish, which lends a grounded, artisanal feel that can complement both natural wood tones and contrasting colours. Although listed under ceiling lights, it’s better suited as a decorative accessory or focal point on open shelving or sideboards rather than a traditional light fixture. When styling with this bowl, consider pairing it with textured ceramics or greenery to enhance its handcrafted appeal. It's ideal for creating a layered, earthy aesthetic, especially in relaxed living spaces or dining areas where its organic shape can be appreciated up close.

About Nkuku

Established in 2003, Nkuku offers ethically sourced, handcrafted, and eco-friendly homewares and furniture. Their pieces introduce an element of rustic elegance to your space, perfect for creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

The Story of Nkuku

Inspired by the artisans they met during a world trip in 2002, Ali and Alex established Nkuku, a brand that celebrates handmade techniques and traditional skills from artisans across the world.

The journey began with a business plan drafted on a beach, with the name "Nkuku" taken from a Zambian village they passed.

Starting in Devon, they initially sold products from their travels at local markets. Eventually, Nkuku transitioned from a wholesale business to a known retail brand, offering a wide range of homewares, from tableware to furniture.

Values and Ethical Commitment

Nkuku is not just about selling products; it's about values. They are committed to an ethical approach, partnering with independent businesses, social projects, and cooperatives. Their focus? Building transparent, strong relationships with suppliers to ensure mutual success.

They're also environmentally conscious, incorporating natural and recycled materials into their products. From golden hemp and reclaimed mango wood to textiles recycled from old t-shirts, Nkuku champions sustainability and eco-friendly production methods.

Sustainability at Its Heart

Every Nkuku product tells a tale, capturing the essence of traditional, handmade craftsmanship. By embracing low-impact production methods, they bring collections that are individually crafted, ensuring each piece is unique.

The brand cherishes the age-old knowledge passed down through generations of artisans. It's not just about home décor for them; it's about keeping a rich heritage alive and celebrating the beauty of handmade uniqueness.
