Description

Inspired by time-honoured weaving techniques, the Aqil rug celebrates traditional Indian design. The classic pattern and muted tones of this woven rug evoke a sense of heritage and craftsmanship, bringing a subtle decorative touch that feels both rooted and refined. A timeless piece that effortlessly complements both rustic and contemporary interiors.

Our Stylist Says

The nkuku Aqil jute and cotton rug is a versatile piece that adds a natural, textured element to a range of interiors. I love its neutral tones, which work well in both modern and more traditional settings, and it’s particularly effective in creating a relaxed, organic vibe. It pairs beautifully with soft, muted furnishings or layered with additional textiles for added comfort and visual interest. Practical styling tips include placing it under a central seating area or dining table to anchor the space, and pairing it with earthy colours or natural wood furniture to emphasise its organic appeal. Its sizable 200 x 300cm dimension makes it a great choice for open-plan living rooms or larger communal areas where it can make a real impact.

About Nkuku

Established in 2003, Nkuku offers ethically sourced, handcrafted, and eco-friendly homewares and furniture. Their pieces introduce an element of rustic elegance to your space, perfect for creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

The Story of Nkuku

Inspired by the artisans they met during a world trip in 2002, Ali and Alex established Nkuku, a brand that celebrates handmade techniques and traditional skills from artisans across the world.

The journey began with a business plan drafted on a beach, with the name "Nkuku" taken from a Zambian village they passed.

Starting in Devon, they initially sold products from their travels at local markets. Eventually, Nkuku transitioned from a wholesale business to a known retail brand, offering a wide range of homewares, from tableware to furniture.

Values and Ethical Commitment

Nkuku is not just about selling products; it's about values. They are committed to an ethical approach, partnering with independent businesses, social projects, and cooperatives. Their focus? Building transparent, strong relationships with suppliers to ensure mutual success.

They're also environmentally conscious, incorporating natural and recycled materials into their products. From golden hemp and reclaimed mango wood to textiles recycled from old t-shirts, Nkuku champions sustainability and eco-friendly production methods.

Sustainability at Its Heart

Every Nkuku product tells a tale, capturing the essence of traditional, handmade craftsmanship. By embracing low-impact production methods, they bring collections that are individually crafted, ensuring each piece is unique.

The brand cherishes the age-old knowledge passed down through generations of artisans. It's not just about home décor for them; it's about keeping a rich heritage alive and celebrating the beauty of handmade uniqueness.
