Description

Product Information Beautifully crafted by skilled artisans Abe has a deconstructed back and sides that reveals the natural mango wood frame and hemp lining. But 'deconstructed' doesn't mean there's any compromise on comfort as Abe benefits from a plush deep seat and padded cushions upholstered in linen. A word on the wood The mango wood used to make Nkuku's wooden pieces come from mango trees that have stopped bearing fruit. This allows the farmers to plant more trees and provides them with a supplementary income. Try before you buy We're confident in our furniture's quality, but it's always a good idea to check that it's a good personal fit for you.

Our Stylist Says

I’m a big fan of the Abe linen chair because its neutral tone and lightly distressed oak frame sit comfortably in both minimalist and more layered schemes. The loose, overstuffed cushions give it a lived-in look while the gently turned legs add a subtle nod to traditional carpentry. Styling tip: flank it with a small, woven basket for extra throws and a slimside table in matt black or aged brass to introduce contrast. A chunky knit cushion or a soft wool throw will break up the linen and invite you to relax, whether it’s in a cosy reading nook or as part of a relaxed, mixed-materials living room.

About John Lewis

Founded in 1864, John Lewis is a trusted and beloved brand where you can find a diverse range of furniture for every style and budget, alongside finding the perfect item that reflects your personal taste.

A Legacy of Innovation and Inclusion

John Lewis started as a small shop on London's Oxford Street in 1864. Today, it's part of a bigger family called the John Lewis Partnership, which also includes Waitrose stores.

What makes them special is that they're owned by their employees, known as 'Partners'. The idea, from the beginning, was to give everyone a say in how the business was run. With over 74,000 Partners (employees) at the heart of its operations, the essence of John Lewis's vision, from over a century ago, still echoes today being the largest employee-owned venture.

Adapting to Changing Times

Like many stores, John Lewis has had to change with the times. They've closed some shops but have grown their online business a lot, especially when more people started shopping online during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their history is filled with key moments, like buying Peter Jones in 1905, adding Waitrose in 1937, and starting their website in 2001. They've always tried to adapt and stay relevant.

Commitment to a Greater Purpose

John Lewis believes in doing good and making the world a better place. This is seen in the way they treat their employees and customers. For example, in 2021, they were the first big UK store to give parents six months paid leave when they have a baby and two weeks paid leave if they lose a pregnancy. They've been around for over a century and always aim to do the right thing by everyone.
