Description

Simple and elegant, we are excited to welcome the new Aamani range into our collection, not least because it combines our much-loved mango wood frame with an entirely new material for nkuku - recycled paper cord handwoven to create a strong and durable seat and back. This classically-shaped piece holds a beautiful story of sustainability and ingenuity, and we particularly love that this versatile and timeless silhouette is made entirely from wood in its various forms. Thanks to its laidback charms, this design fits into any scheme, from rustic kitchen bar to airy garden room. For extra comfort, it comes with a linen seat pad with ties, but can equally be used without. Also available as a and an.

Our Stylist Says

I’m a big fan of this mango-wood counter stool for its clean lines and natural texture - the woven cord back brings just the right amount of tactile interest without overwhelming a space. It sits well in Scandi-inspired or farmhouse kitchens, and it’s equally at home in a pared-back coastal scheme. For practical styling, I’d add a neutral linen seat pad or a slim bolster cushion in muted tones and keep nearby accessories minimal - think a simple earthenware jug or a single green stem in glass.

About Nkuku

Established in 2003, Nkuku offers ethically sourced, handcrafted, and eco-friendly homewares and furniture. Their pieces introduce an element of rustic elegance to your space, perfect for creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

The Story of Nkuku

Inspired by the artisans they met during a world trip in 2002, Ali and Alex established Nkuku, a brand that celebrates handmade techniques and traditional skills from artisans across the world.

The journey began with a business plan drafted on a beach, with the name "Nkuku" taken from a Zambian village they passed.

Starting in Devon, they initially sold products from their travels at local markets. Eventually, Nkuku transitioned from a wholesale business to a known retail brand, offering a wide range of homewares, from tableware to furniture.

Values and Ethical Commitment

Nkuku is not just about selling products; it's about values. They are committed to an ethical approach, partnering with independent businesses, social projects, and cooperatives. Their focus? Building transparent, strong relationships with suppliers to ensure mutual success.

They're also environmentally conscious, incorporating natural and recycled materials into their products. From golden hemp and reclaimed mango wood to textiles recycled from old t-shirts, Nkuku champions sustainability and eco-friendly production methods.

Sustainability at Its Heart

Every Nkuku product tells a tale, capturing the essence of traditional, handmade craftsmanship. By embracing low-impact production methods, they bring collections that are individually crafted, ensuring each piece is unique.

The brand cherishes the age-old knowledge passed down through generations of artisans. It's not just about home décor for them; it's about keeping a rich heritage alive and celebrating the beauty of handmade uniqueness.
