The Newington sofa bed in ink blue is a stylish yet functional design, transforming from a sophisticated sofa into a comfortable double bed in seconds. As a sofa its big plump cushions and deep seat guarantee the upmost comfort while its compact size makes it ideal for smaller spaces. Folding out into a bed using a simple 3-fold mechanism, it comfortably sleeps 2 people and comes complete with a sprung 7cm mattress. Upholstered in our most luxurious velvet, this cotton blend fabric has a deep pile so is extremely soft to touch while also being hardwearing. Newington is also available in other fabrics and colours. The Birth of Habitat
In 1964, Sir Terence Conran founded Habitat in London, aiming to bring a fresh European touch to UK home decor.
The first store, located on Fulham Road in Chelsea, became the blueprint for all Habitat stores to come. The store stood out with its distinct design, and was famously known for selling affordable pasta storage jars just as the pasta market began booming in the UK.
Rapid Expansion & Legacy
Habitat grew swiftly in the UK during the 1960s and even crossed borders with its first international store in Paris in 1973.
The brand's journey through the decades saw various mergers and acquisitions, including its integration with Sainsbury's Group in 2017.
Habitat's innovation extended beyond products; they even launched a mail-order system in 1966 and initiated the concept of flat-pack furniture in 1971.
Celebrating its rich history, the brand marked its 50th anniversary in 2014 by collaborating with past designers and commissioning a special logo.
