This illustration was done over many many cups of tea. A tribute to the original tea clipper. I really like the bold red sun, the contrasting delicate blue lines, the lush cream-ish background creating the perfect negative space making this print quite attractive. The Cutty Sark is a legendary British clipper ship, renowned for its speed and grace during the 19th century. Built in 1869 in Dumbarton, Scotland, it was designed for the tea trade, transporting goods from China to England. The ship's sleek and elegant design, combined with its innovative features such as a composite construction of wood and iron, made it one of the fastest ships of its time.
This print of the Cutty Sark works brilliantly in both modern and coastal inspired interiors due to its neutral tones and minimalist style. I love how it captures a classic London landmark with a contemporary twist, making it versatile for various spaces. It pairs well with light wood or grey tones, and can add a pop of colour to neutral schemes. Practical styling tips include framing it with a slim white or light wood surround for a clean, understated look, and positioning it above a console or sofa to create an immediate focal point. It’s an ideal piece for anyone wanting to inject a touch of maritime heritage into a stylish, understated setting.
