Description

One of the most iconic of all William Morris's designs, Pimpernel from 1876 describes dramatically swirling tulips and tendrils, interspersed with jewel-like pimpernel flowerheads. Translated onto this beautiful 100% woollen hand-tufted rug, the indigo colourway adds depth of colour and drama. This rug is tufted by hand, meaning that material is injected into the back of the rug with a tufting gun, holding the material firmly in place. About your new rug We recommend John Lewis & Partners Rug Hold Underlay. It prevents your rug from moving underfoot and protects against colour transfer to the floor As this rug is made using natural fibres, shedding is to be expected. This will reduce over time, and should not have an impact on the lifespan or performance of your rug. When you first get your rug, please use the brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner whilst the shedding dies down. After that, when vacuuming your rug, use suction only. Rotating brushes may damage the fibres. When vacuuming your rug, use suction only. Rotating brushes may damage the fibres Blot any spills with a clean, dry cloth. Do not rub or use harsh detergents. Textile backed Attend to spillages immediately and blot with a clean, dry cloth to prevent staining. Dilute a small amount of appropriate carpet shampoo in water. Dampen a colourfast cloth in the diluted shampoo solution and dab the rug, lightly agitating, moving in the direction of the pile. Treat the whole rug and not just the affected area. To restore the appearance of the affected area, use a soft bristled brush to gently comb in the direction of the pile. Allow the rug to thoroughly dry. The benefits of a wool rug Warm and durable, wool feels beautifully soft underfoot and is long-lasting Naturally flame-retardant and odour resistant Water repellent so easier to clean Naturally biodegradable, wool is part of the circular economy and contains no micro plastics

Our Stylist Says

I love this Morris & Co. Pimpernel rug for its striking indigo hue and timeless floral pattern, which add a rich, vintage feel to any space. It works particularly well in both traditional and contemporary interiors, providing a focal point that anchors a sitting room or bedroom. Practical styling tips include pairing it with neutral furniture to let the pattern stand out, or layering with textured textiles for a cosy, eclectic vibe. Its size makes it versatile for medium-sized spaces, and it’s durable enough for moderate foot traffic, making it both stylish and functional.

About John Lewis

Founded in 1864, John Lewis is a trusted and beloved brand where you can find a diverse range of furniture for every style and budget, alongside finding the perfect item that reflects your personal taste.

A Legacy of Innovation and Inclusion

John Lewis started as a small shop on London's Oxford Street in 1864. Today, it's part of a bigger family called the John Lewis Partnership, which also includes Waitrose stores.

What makes them special is that they're owned by their employees, known as 'Partners'. The idea, from the beginning, was to give everyone a say in how the business was run. With over 74,000 Partners (employees) at the heart of its operations, the essence of John Lewis's vision, from over a century ago, still echoes today being the largest employee-owned venture.

Adapting to Changing Times

Like many stores, John Lewis has had to change with the times. They've closed some shops but have grown their online business a lot, especially when more people started shopping online during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their history is filled with key moments, like buying Peter Jones in 1905, adding Waitrose in 1937, and starting their website in 2001. They've always tried to adapt and stay relevant.

Commitment to a Greater Purpose

John Lewis believes in doing good and making the world a better place. This is seen in the way they treat their employees and customers. For example, in 2021, they were the first big UK store to give parents six months paid leave when they have a baby and two weeks paid leave if they lose a pregnancy. They've been around for over a century and always aim to do the right thing by everyone.
