I’m a fan of the Modi lowboy for its warm reclaimed-wood finish and slim brass legs, which combine practical storage with a light, mid-century feel. It slips neatly into Scandi-inspired schemes as well as industrial or modern-farmhouse rooms, thanks to its straightforward lines and natural texture. To style it, keep the top surface uncluttered - a single ceramic lamp, a small stack of books and a sprig of greenery is all you need. Inside the drawers you can stow electronics, paperwork or bedside essentials, reserving the top for items you want on display without overloading the look.

Born from the vision of two young RAF men, Charles Barker and Alex Stonehouse, Barker and Stonehouse emerged as a beacon of hope, infusing post-war Britain with a hint of glamour. Starting from a single store in Stockton on Tees, their entrepreneurial spirit led to rapid expansion, opening multiple stores across the region.

Sustainability at the Forefront
From the very start, Barker and Stonehouse has held a deep commitment to the environment. This devotion was showcased through initiatives such as the Trees4Trees Project, a reforestation effort in Indonesia.
Ensuring that for every tree used in their products, more than two were replanted, nearly 1.5 million trees have been restored under this initiative.
Their Knaresborough store, one of the greenest retail stores in the UK, further underscores their dedication to sustainable practices. As a cherry on top, by 2021, the company achieved the status of "Carbon Neutral Plus", making them a trailblazer in the furniture industry.

From opening their iconic store in Battersea, London, which beautifully preserved the characteristics of an old candle factory, to their latest state-of-the-art Gateshead store in 2023, every location tells a story.
