With its soft, curved organic shape, Melt is reminiscent of a drop of glass or molten metal, ice or even outer space! Tom Dixon got together with the Swedish collective, Front, to create this "distorted" hanging light with a fascinating optical effect : when it is lit, Melt becomes completely hypnotic! This deformed sphere is made of an innovative material: a clever mix of polycarbonate with a few microns of metal. This very special metallic finish allows Melt to transform and change its look completely! When the light is off, the metallic shade is opaque and reflective. Once the light is on, the lampshade becomes translucent like glass: the material is decorated with beautiful deep reflections, playing with light, colour, transparency and depth.
The Melt Pendant is a striking choice for adding a sculptural touch to modern interiors, especially those with an industrial or contemporary edge. I love its organic, pebble-like shape and the bold grey finish, which pairs beautifully with both neutral palettes and more vibrant colour schemes. It works particularly well in open-plan living spaces, kitchens, or above dining tables, where its statement form can be appreciated. Practical styling tips include keeping other fixtures and accessories minimal to let the pendant stand out, and placing it at varying heights for a layered lighting effect. Its versatile design also lends itself to eclectic or minimalist interiors, making it a real design asset.
