I’m a fan of this oak cube shelf for its clean lines and light, neutral finish - it slots straight into Scandi, contemporary or casual coastal schemes without overwhelming the space. The nine equal compartments make it just as useful in a living room as a home office or bedroom, and the mellow wood grain brings warmth alongside cooler metal or glass accents.
For styling, alternate books (spine-out and stacked) with decorative baskets or storage boxes to keep smaller items tidy. Introduce a few low-profile plants or sculptures to break up the geometry, and leave at least one or two cubes open to avoid a cluttered feel. In 1980, Chris Dawson set up a simple open-air market stall in Plymouth. By 1989, this entrepreneurial spirit led to the opening of the very first physical store on Billacombe Road, originally named "C.D.S. Superstores". However, in the early '90s, a rebranding took place, introducing "The Range" to the world.
Today, with a whopping 200+ stores across the UK, The Range boasts an impressive selection of over 65,000 products, spreading across 16 diverse departments, all dedicated to enhancing homes and lifestyles.
Chris Dawson, the brain behind The Range, held the CEO position from 1989 to 2017. With a flair for business, Chris's achievements haven't gone unnoticed. He was even ranked fifth in a survey of Britain's Top 100 Entrepreneurs.
