Description

The Profile chair was designed by Matthew Hilton to accompany his award-winning Cross extending table. Crafted from solid timber, this well proportioned chair features a soft upholstered leather seat pad, splayed legs and a recessed back which ensures it is extremely comfortable to sit in for extended periods of time. Designed with a sleek and durably constructed frame, the Profile chair is an ergonomic solution for dining and is conveniently stackable up to six chairs high. Matthew Hilton worked as an industrial designer and model maker until 1984 when he set up his own design studio/workshop. Two years later he launched a series of shelves at the Milan Furniture Fair, and in 1991 he designed the Balzac Armchair, which was embraced as a modern classic. Since then, Hilton's work has taken on a less stylistic, more functional approach. Want to see it first? You may want to see and get a feel for the furniture in one of our shops before ordering. We'll be able to tell you where the range you'd like to view is on display.

Our Stylist Says

I’m a fan of this Profile chair for its clean lines and solid oak frame, which feels both sturdy and lightweight. The pale cream seat keeps it looking fresh and works well in dining areas, home offices or as occasional seating in a hallway. Styling tip: pair it with a simple, light wood table and muted accessories - think stoneware vases or linen runners - to maintain its pared-back appeal. It also layers nicely against pale walls and textured rugs, so you can add warmth without overwhelming the chair’s minimalist look.

About John Lewis

Founded in 1864, John Lewis is a trusted and beloved brand where you can find a diverse range of furniture for every style and budget, alongside finding the perfect item that reflects your personal taste.

A Legacy of Innovation and Inclusion

John Lewis started as a small shop on London's Oxford Street in 1864. Today, it's part of a bigger family called the John Lewis Partnership, which also includes Waitrose stores.

What makes them special is that they're owned by their employees, known as 'Partners'. The idea, from the beginning, was to give everyone a say in how the business was run. With over 74,000 Partners (employees) at the heart of its operations, the essence of John Lewis's vision, from over a century ago, still echoes today being the largest employee-owned venture.

Adapting to Changing Times

Like many stores, John Lewis has had to change with the times. They've closed some shops but have grown their online business a lot, especially when more people started shopping online during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their history is filled with key moments, like buying Peter Jones in 1905, adding Waitrose in 1937, and starting their website in 2001. They've always tried to adapt and stay relevant.

Commitment to a Greater Purpose

John Lewis believes in doing good and making the world a better place. This is seen in the way they treat their employees and customers. For example, in 2021, they were the first big UK store to give parents six months paid leave when they have a baby and two weeks paid leave if they lose a pregnancy. They've been around for over a century and always aim to do the right thing by everyone.
