The minimal aesthetic of Scandinavian design is beautifully realised through masterful Indian craftsmanship to create the Bowl extra large occasional table. Designed by Ayush Kasliwal for Danish brand Mater, the Bowl range showcases and supports the traditional skills of the Kharadi, a community of wood turners based in India. Each table is made from sustainably harvested mango wood that is lathe turned to create its elegant lipped design. Supported by tapered steel legs, the Bowl range comes in a range finishes and sizes that look striking alone or in groups.

I’m a big fan of this black mango-wood bowl table - its low profile and slim metal legs keep the look clean and contemporary. The raised rim makes it especially handy for corralling coffee-table books, candles and small plants without anything sliding off.
It sits equally well in a Scandi-inspired living room or a loft-style space with exposed brick. For styling, start with a stack of two or three art or coffee-table books, top with a small planter or sculptural object, and balance the other side with a candle or a shallow decorative bowl. Its generous surface also means you can switch in a wooden tray to break up the black and introduce texture.

Heal's is a well-known British furniture store with a history that spans over 200 years. It began in 1810 when John Harris Heal and his son started a business for feather products but soon moved into furniture.
