Design. With two types of luxurious velvet alongside stunning turned feet with metal castors, the Marchmont Wing Chair has an eye-catching design that blends plain and patterned upholstery and vintage design for a modern classic look with an art deco twist. A perfect partner for the Claudette Grand Sofa, the Marchmont’s grand wingback shape is complemented by a plump seat cushion that is great for those who love a chair that feels as good as it looks. Shown in Alure Velvet Azure and Royal Gardan Sapphire with brown and brass aster feet. Scatter cushions are available at an additional cost, please contact our sales team for further details.

Our Stylist Says

I love this armchair for its classic silhouette and rich, deep hue, which works beautifully in both traditional and eclectic interiors. It’s a versatile piece that adds a touch of sophistication yet remains inviting. The wingback design makes it an ideal statement in a cosy reading nook or a corner in a living room. To style it effectively, pair it with textured cushions or a patterned throw to soften the look, and consider placing it alongside a warm-toned wooden side table or vintage rug for a layered, inviting feel. Its timeless design ensures it can be seamlessly integrated into various colour palettes and decorating styles, from heritage-inspired schemes to modern eclectic spaces.

About Barker and Stonehouse

Founded in 1946, Barker and Stonehouse offer a diverse range of stylish and timeless pieces. From contemporary to traditional designs, Barker and Stonehouse brings sophistication and comfort to every room.

A Remarkable Journey

Born from the vision of two young RAF men, Charles Barker and Alex Stonehouse, Barker and Stonehouse emerged as a beacon of hope, infusing post-war Britain with a hint of glamour. Starting from a single store in Stockton on Tees, their entrepreneurial spirit led to rapid expansion, opening multiple stores across the region.

Their fast growth was fueled not only by their flair for business but also by their dedication to innovation. The business transformed over the years, adapting to the changing landscapes of retail, all while preserving its charm and values. By 2021, they marked an impressive 75 years in the industry, a testament to their enduring commitment to quality and customer service.

Sustainability at the Forefront

From the very start, Barker and Stonehouse has held a deep commitment to the environment. This devotion was showcased through initiatives such as the Trees4Trees Project, a reforestation effort in Indonesia.

Ensuring that for every tree used in their products, more than two were replanted, nearly 1.5 million trees have been restored under this initiative.

Their Knaresborough store, one of the greenest retail stores in the UK, further underscores their dedication to sustainable practices. As a cherry on top, by 2021, the company achieved the status of "Carbon Neutral Plus", making them a trailblazer in the furniture industry.

Innovative Spaces and Expanding Horizons

Over the decades, Barker and Stonehouse didn't just expand in number, but in the quality and innovation of their spaces. From opening their iconic store in Battersea, London, which beautifully preserved the characteristics of an old candle factory, to their latest state-of-the-art Gateshead store in 2023, every location tells a story.

They have also ventured into digital realms, ensuring a vast online presence and offering a wide range of products to customers all over the UK. Their partnerships, like the one with Fenwick in 2021, illustrate their adaptability and constant quest to reach new audiences.
