Description
A multicultural, ethnic design, brought to life by flashy colours, contemporary and joyful. German designer Sebastian Herkner has created a lounge armchair inspired by the creative language of South America. Maraca is inspired by traditional Colombian hammocks. The striped folk pattern and bright, fresh colour combinations create a real joy of living! Of very high quality, the 100% cotton cover is woven by hand, only by women, in the province of Bolívar, on the north coast of Colombia. In this region, where the Zenús live (an indigenous people with partially African roots), the craftsmen perpetuate the tradition of weaving to make clothing and hammocks that occupy an important place in their folklore. In the small villages of Bolívar, every woman has her own loom. The cotton fibre is naturally dyed with seeds, leaves, nuts and roots. To fix the vibrant colours, the artisans use salt and Almidon, a natural starch. The cotton cover is set on a tubular steel structure with its curved, contemporary lines. This powder-coated steel frame is made by ames in a long-established manufacturing plant in Bogotá. The Maraca armchair is at once exuberant, rich in humanity, modern, colourful and full of vitality. A treat for the eyes and an invitation to travel. The Maraca armchair was born as the result of designer Sebastian Herkner's trip to Colombia. Concerned with bringing originality and authenticity to his creations, he met local craftspeople who have managed to preserve and pass on real expertise and traditional production methods over the centuries.
