I’m a fan of the Mara extending table for its clean lines, gentle neutral base and warm oak top - it sits just as comfortably in a Scandi-inspired kitchen as it does in a relaxed country or coastal scheme. The simple silhouette and soft colour palette mean it can take on either modern dining chairs or more traditional ladder-back styles without looking out of place. For styling, keep the surface relatively uncluttered: a slim linen runner down the centre, a low ceramic vase of foliage and a couple of tapered candles give interest without hiding the wood grain. Because it extends from 120cm up to around 250cm, you can swap out your everyday chairs for a bench on one side when you need to squeeze in a few extra guests, then tuck everything neatly back underneath when you’re done.

Their Knaresborough store, one of the greenest retail stores in the UK, further underscores their dedication to sustainable practices. As a cherry on top, by 2021, the company achieved the status of "Carbon Neutral Plus", making them a trailblazer in the furniture industry.
