Description

Design. A modern take on the traditional writing desk, the Maison Desk offers plenty of charming character thanks a sleek mango wood top that showcases how the true beauty of natural wood’s knots and grain is effortlessly complemented by chic, painted finishes. A shallow depth that makes this eye-catching desk an ideal choice for a range of spaces, the Maison provides practical storage space too. Including 2 handy smaller drawers that are perfect for stowing away stationary and computer accessories, and a larger drawer that makes a safe place to keep your important documents, the Maison is a great choice for artists, writers or simply those who want a sophisticated workspace. For those who love a clean work space, the Maison includes a practical shelf feature for tucking away your laptop or keyboard to keep the desk’s surface looking neat and tidy.

Our Stylist Says

I love this desk because of its timeless appeal and versatile colour palette, which makes it a great fit for both traditional and contemporary interiors. The mix of Moss Grey with a natural wooden top creates a relaxed yet refined look, perfect for home offices, study nooks, or even a cosy kitchen corner. Practical styling tips include adding organised storage with baskets or small organisers in the drawers and keeping the surface clear for a clean workspace. It works particularly well with rustic, shabby chic, or farmhouse styles, but can also be paired with modern accessories for an eclectic twist. Just remember to balance the soft colours with textured fabrics or statement lighting to avoid a too-muted look.

About Barker and Stonehouse

Founded in 1946, Barker and Stonehouse offer a diverse range of stylish and timeless pieces. From contemporary to traditional designs, Barker and Stonehouse brings sophistication and comfort to every room.

A Remarkable Journey

Born from the vision of two young RAF men, Charles Barker and Alex Stonehouse, Barker and Stonehouse emerged as a beacon of hope, infusing post-war Britain with a hint of glamour. Starting from a single store in Stockton on Tees, their entrepreneurial spirit led to rapid expansion, opening multiple stores across the region.

Their fast growth was fueled not only by their flair for business but also by their dedication to innovation. The business transformed over the years, adapting to the changing landscapes of retail, all while preserving its charm and values. By 2021, they marked an impressive 75 years in the industry, a testament to their enduring commitment to quality and customer service.

Sustainability at the Forefront

From the very start, Barker and Stonehouse has held a deep commitment to the environment. This devotion was showcased through initiatives such as the Trees4Trees Project, a reforestation effort in Indonesia.

Ensuring that for every tree used in their products, more than two were replanted, nearly 1.5 million trees have been restored under this initiative.

Their Knaresborough store, one of the greenest retail stores in the UK, further underscores their dedication to sustainable practices. As a cherry on top, by 2021, the company achieved the status of "Carbon Neutral Plus", making them a trailblazer in the furniture industry.

Innovative Spaces and Expanding Horizons

Over the decades, Barker and Stonehouse didn't just expand in number, but in the quality and innovation of their spaces. From opening their iconic store in Battersea, London, which beautifully preserved the characteristics of an old candle factory, to their latest state-of-the-art Gateshead store in 2023, every location tells a story.

They have also ventured into digital realms, ensuring a vast online presence and offering a wide range of products to customers all over the UK. Their partnerships, like the one with Fenwick in 2021, illustrate their adaptability and constant quest to reach new audiences.
