Description

Built from solid birch wood with birch veneers, this high-quality dining table will see you through many dinner parties over the years. Able to seat up to eight people when fully extended, it's been coated in a matt lacquer for a low maintenance finish. And assembly is easy as you only need to attach the legs. Want to see it first? You may want to see and get a feel for the furniture in one of our shops before ordering. We'll be able to tell you where the range you'd like to view is on display.

Our Stylist Says

I’m a fan of this dark-chestnut extending dining table for its clean lines and warm finish, which blend as easily into a classic country kitchen as they do a modern-farmhouse or transitional dining space. The simple silhouette means you can layer in texture - think woven linen runners or leather-backed chairs - to add depth without competing with the wood tone. For styling, keep the centrepiece minimal: a low ceramic bowl of seasonal foliage or a pair of tapered candles works well. When guests arrive, simply slide out the hidden leaf and add extra chairs or a bench at one side. Its sturdy legs leave plenty of room for seating arrangements, so you can mix and match metal, wood or upholstered chairs depending on your mood.

About John Lewis

Founded in 1864, John Lewis is a trusted and beloved brand where you can find a diverse range of furniture for every style and budget, alongside finding the perfect item that reflects your personal taste.

A Legacy of Innovation and Inclusion

John Lewis started as a small shop on London's Oxford Street in 1864. Today, it's part of a bigger family called the John Lewis Partnership, which also includes Waitrose stores.

What makes them special is that they're owned by their employees, known as 'Partners'. The idea, from the beginning, was to give everyone a say in how the business was run. With over 74,000 Partners (employees) at the heart of its operations, the essence of John Lewis's vision, from over a century ago, still echoes today being the largest employee-owned venture.

Adapting to Changing Times

Like many stores, John Lewis has had to change with the times. They've closed some shops but have grown their online business a lot, especially when more people started shopping online during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their history is filled with key moments, like buying Peter Jones in 1905, adding Waitrose in 1937, and starting their website in 2001. They've always tried to adapt and stay relevant.

Commitment to a Greater Purpose

John Lewis believes in doing good and making the world a better place. This is seen in the way they treat their employees and customers. For example, in 2021, they were the first big UK store to give parents six months paid leave when they have a baby and two weeks paid leave if they lose a pregnancy. They've been around for over a century and always aim to do the right thing by everyone.
