Taking inspiration from one of the most popular ranges from the Laura Ashley Archive, the Avonmore fixed dining table evokes vintage cottage feel. The apron and turned legs are carefully shaped to mimic the traditions of period, country-style furniture and its extra-large width should easily accommodate eight for dinner or more at a casual gathering. Each side of the table benefits from a wide drawer, featuring removable dividers and antique brass handles. The story is completed with a gently distressed, hand-applied cream paint finish and a contrasting weathered wood top. Want to see it first? I’m a fan of the Avonmore table for its timeless mix of a painted frame and natural-oak top - the turned legs and shallow drawer add just enough character without feeling fussy. Its neutral tones suit a variety of schemes, from country-style kitchens and coastal retreats to more pared-back Scandi interiors or a soft farmhouse look. For styling, keep the surface uncluttered: a linen runner, simple ceramic vase with seasonal blooms and a couple of tapered candles. Tuck in upholstered chairs or a painted bench for contrast, and anchor the area with a low-pile, neutral-toned rug to define the dining zone and protect your floors.

John Lewis started as a small shop on London's Oxford Street in 1864. Today, it's part of a bigger family called the John Lewis Partnership, which also includes Waitrose stores.
