Renowned co-founder of the Memphis movement, British designer George Sowden has continued his creative journey with his lighting series, "Shades". These modular, silicon lamps bear the geometric, colourful and bold style of their renowned creator. The Shades lamps are composed of colourful silicon lampshades with infinite combination possibilities. The simple geometric shapes are layered in a thousand and one ways, creating totem-like silhouettes. The rich, chromatic combinations highlight the play on layered volumes. The Shades lamps allow for countless configuration possibilities thanks to the modularity of their silicon components. The initial idea behind Shades came about in 2020, when George Sowden discovered the extraordinary potential of silicon, which optimally propagates light in a marvellously expressive way. Once the light is switched on, the material plays on transparency and colour, showcasing the textures of its surface and creating a stunning effect of depth. The colours light up, diffusing a vibrant yet soft and comfortable light. Plus, silicon is a non-toxic material, as well as being easy to clean, shock-resistant and known for retaining its aesthetic qualities over time.
