A lighting classic, the subtle and charming Lampe de Marseille was designed by Le Corbusier for the Unité d'Habitation of Marseille in 1949, and has since solidified itself as an archetype of the modern lighting genre. The wall light's characterising feature is its two shades, which each house a light source. Crafted from spun aluminium, the shades are of differing width, casting versatile emanations into the surrounding space in two directions. Furthering the lamp's flexibility are the two joints featured along the stem that swiftly alter direction, and the rotatable wall mount fixture, making the Lampe de Marseille ideal for task lighting, or indirect ambience, as required. Requires: 2x max. 70W E27 bulbs (not included).
I love the Lampe de Marseille in white for its sleek, minimalist design that adds a modern touch without overpowering a space. It works well in contemporary or Scandinavian interiors, particularly when paired with soft neutral tones or natural materials, as it brings a subtle sculptural element to the room. Practical styling tips include placing it beside reading chairs or beds for functional task lighting, or using it as a statement piece in a minimalist corridor wall. Its understated elegance makes it versatile, so it can adapt to different schemes, whether tucked into a corner or used to highlight a feature wall.
