Description
The "Lampadina" table lamp is one of the iconic lamps designed by Achille Castiglioni (1918-2002), grand master of 20th century Italian design. Lampadina was designed for the opening of the Flos showroom in Turin in 1972. A symbol of the 70s, this light with an industrial design takes its name (bulb in Italian) from its essential, characteristic, spherical shape: A blend of simplicity, irony and lightness, combined with practical details. Evoking spools used in the industrial sector, the aluminium base is made of two perforated disks slightly spaced out. The base can roll up the excess cable. The Bakelite coloured mount serves as a stand for an oversized LED bulb (included). The partially-satiny finish on one side of the glass globe lets you avoid glare and, at the same time, adds an aesthetic detail to the extreme simplicity of this light. Depending on how you face the frosted part, you can choose between direct or diffuse light. The switch is located on the Bakelite mount. This simple and clean creation highlights the bulb, pure light itself. A stand-out figure in Italian design, Castiglioni continued to lead the way in a manner both mischievous and detached. His philosophy on the subject is based around the pleasure of discovery and invention, rather than form as finality. For Castiglioni, the items had to meet two basic requirements : to provide a practical solution, if possible with a smart, functional innovation to satisfy the public’s tastes.
