A true design classic, Eero Saarinen’s oval Tulip Dining Table for Knoll took Saarinen five years to develop in a quest to combat the “slum of legs” commonly found underneath tables. Its beautifully curved base and refined bevelled table top cement this design as a defining accomplishment of modern aesthetics. Select the large edition if you’re looking to seat up to eight people, or opt for extra-large to seat up to ten guests.

I’m a fan of the Saarinen table for its clean silhouette and the subtle drama of Arabescato marble - its grey veining lifts a neutral scheme without overwhelming it. It sits equally well in a minimalist apartment, a Scandi-inspired kitchen or a more eclectic dining nook where you might mix in rattan or upholstered chairs for texture.
For practical styling, centre a simple ceramic vase or a low-profile bowl so the marble remains the hero. Keep the tabletop clear of clutter and use coasters to protect the finish. A light-coloured, low-pile rug underneath will anchor the table without hiding its elegant base.
