A true design classic, Eero Saarinen’s oval Tulip Dining Table for Knoll took Saarinen five years to develop in a quest to combat the “slum of legs” commonly found underneath tables. Its beautifully curved base and refined bevelled table top cement this design as a defining accomplishment of modern aesthetics. Select the large edition if you’re looking to seat up to eight people, or opt for extra-large to seat up to ten guests.

I always reach for the Saarinen table when a room needs a strong focal point without feeling bulky - the slim black tulip base and rich Verdi Alpi marble top strike a clean, contemporary note. It suits mid-century modern settings as well as pared-back Scandi or industrial loft interiors, where the green veining adds just enough warmth against exposed brick or white walls.
For styling, keep tabletop clutter to a minimum: a low ceramic tray with a simple blossom stem, a pair of tapered candlesticks or an angular metal sculpture. Surround it with slim-profile chairs - black, white or muted leather - to echo the base, and anchor the scheme with a low-pile geometric rug to protect your floor.
