A painterly response to Yiddish music that takes its name from the words klei ("vessel" or "instrument") and zemer ("song"). About the artist Studying and then teaching at The Essential School of Painting, Johanna Melvin is an abstract painter living and working in east London. She specialises in building up fine layers of bright colours to create pieces that take inspiration from the objects and places she finds in suburbia.
I love this piece for its bold, yet balanced composition - it’s a great way to introduce colour and shape into a variety of interiors. It works particularly well in minimalist or contemporary spaces where it can serve as a focal point, but it also adds a lively touch to more eclectic or bohemian schemes. When styling, consider pairing it with neutral furnishings to let the artwork stand out, or complement its colours with smaller accessories in similar hues for a cohesive look. Practical tip: hang it at eye level in a well-lit spot to really draw attention and showcase the punchy palette.
