I’m a fan of this grey Kendal sideboard because its compact footprint and muted tones make it incredibly versatile - it slips neatly into a hallway, snug living room or even bedroom without overwhelming the space. The two drawers and double-door cupboard offer just enough concealed storage for keys, charging cables or linens, while the oak-effect top adds a subtle contrast that lifts the overall look.
Styling-wise, keep it simple: a round mirror hung centrally above helps open up a smaller area, and a couple of ceramic vases or a low planter bring in texture. If you’re after a Scandi-meets-contemporary scheme, pair the unit with soft neutrals, light timber flooring and streamlined chairs or stools. In 1980, Chris Dawson set up a simple open-air market stall in Plymouth. By 1989, this entrepreneurial spirit led to the opening of the very first physical store on Billacombe Road, originally named "C.D.S. Superstores". However, in the early '90s, a rebranding took place, introducing "The Range" to the world.
Today, with a whopping 200+ stores across the UK, The Range boasts an impressive selection of over 65,000 products, spreading across 16 diverse departments, all dedicated to enhancing homes and lifestyles.
Chris Dawson, the brain behind The Range, held the CEO position from 1989 to 2017. With a flair for business, Chris's achievements haven't gone unnoticed. He was even ranked fifth in a survey of Britain's Top 100 Entrepreneurs.
Under his leadership, The Range has not only thrived locally but has also hinted at European expansion dreams, envisioning a staggering 1,000 stores across the continent.
