Incredibly thin and light at only 2mm thick and weighing 2.2kg, the Piuma Dining Chair is hard to beat! Its contemporary character is revealed through a curvaceous surface and ergonomic arm rests, fitting for any modern room. After two years of research, the chairs body is made of carbon-filled thermoplastic (previously only used in aeronautics!) creating a durable and flexible item. I’m a big fan of the Piuma chair for its clean lines, light weight and matt finish - it feels pared-back yet still substantial. It slots seamlessly into modern, Scandi-inspired or even pared-back industrial kitchens and dining rooms, and because it’s weather-resistant you can switch it out to your patio in summer.
For styling, try grouping four or six around a slim-legged table in light oak or marble to keep the look airy, then add seat pads or slim cushions in muted tones for comfort and a subtle pop of colour. Its stackable design also makes it ideal for flexible layouts or extra seating when you’re entertaining.

Born from the vision of two young RAF men, Charles Barker and Alex Stonehouse, Barker and Stonehouse emerged as a beacon of hope, infusing post-war Britain with a hint of glamour. Starting from a single store in Stockton on Tees, their entrepreneurial spirit led to rapid expansion, opening multiple stores across the region.
Their fast growth was fueled not only by their flair for business but also by their dedication to innovation. By 2021, they marked an impressive 75 years in the industry, a testament to their enduring commitment to quality and customer service.
From the very start, Barker and Stonehouse has held a deep commitment to the environment. This devotion was showcased through initiatives such as the Trees4Trees Project, a reforestation effort in Indonesia.
Ensuring that for every tree used in their products, more than two were replanted, nearly 1.5 million trees have been restored under this initiative.
Their Knaresborough store, one of the greenest retail stores in the UK, further underscores their dedication to sustainable practices. As a cherry on top, by 2021, the company achieved the status of "Carbon Neutral Plus", making them a trailblazer in the furniture industry.
