Description
A thought provoking design, the Masters Stool Large by Philippe Starck is a hybrid of three iconic chairs by legendary 20th century designers Arne Jacobsen, Eero Saarinen and Charles Eames. Exhibiting all the innovative construction and quirky features one expects from a Starck design, the branch like loops of this tall bar stool are reminiscent of classic Thonet bentwood chairs.

I often specify the Masters stool in white for its clean, modern profile and iconic back-rest silhouette, which brings both visual interest and practicality to a kitchen island or home bar. Its all-weather, moulded-plastic construction makes it easy to wipe down and hard-wearing, so it sits equally well in a high-traffic family kitchen or a slick Scandinavian-inspired dining space.
Styling tip: pair two or three stools at a marble or timber counter, then introduce a contrasting pendant light to balance the look. A slim seat pad in a soft neutral will up the comfort without hiding the stool’s sculptural lines, and a cluster of potted herbs on the worktop will warm the area without cluttering it.
