Description

Design. Winning the Red Dot Award for design, creative genius Philippe Starck combined his talents with designer Eugeni Quitllet to reinterpret three historically symbolic chairs from 20th century designers. The result; the famed Kartell Masters Chair. The Masters Chair pays a striking tribute to style icon Series 7 by Arne Jacobsen, the most sold stackable chair in history, combined with the sculptural shape of the Tulip Armchair by Eero Saarinen and the Eiffel Chair by Charles Eames. Thought-provoking, the distinctive back combines these three silhouettes through open and empty spaces, using curvaceous lines to create a new, contemporary homage, perfectly adding sophistication and elegance to the home.

Our Stylist Says

I love the orange basket-style chair because of its bold colour and sculptural silhouette, making it a statement piece in any dining setting. It works particularly well in contemporary or eclectic interiors, adding a pop of vibrancy without overpowering the space. Styling tips include pairing it with a neutral dining table to let the chair stand out, or mixing it with natural textures like wood or woven fibres for a balanced look. Its playful yet practical design makes it versatile for both casual family meals and more stylish entertaining, while the vivid orange colour injects energy into the room.

About Barker and Stonehouse

Founded in 1946, Barker and Stonehouse offer a diverse range of stylish and timeless pieces. From contemporary to traditional designs, Barker and Stonehouse brings sophistication and comfort to every room.

A Remarkable Journey

Born from the vision of two young RAF men, Charles Barker and Alex Stonehouse, Barker and Stonehouse emerged as a beacon of hope, infusing post-war Britain with a hint of glamour. Starting from a single store in Stockton on Tees, their entrepreneurial spirit led to rapid expansion, opening multiple stores across the region.

Their fast growth was fueled not only by their flair for business but also by their dedication to innovation. The business transformed over the years, adapting to the changing landscapes of retail, all while preserving its charm and values. By 2021, they marked an impressive 75 years in the industry, a testament to their enduring commitment to quality and customer service.

Sustainability at the Forefront

From the very start, Barker and Stonehouse has held a deep commitment to the environment. This devotion was showcased through initiatives such as the Trees4Trees Project, a reforestation effort in Indonesia.

Ensuring that for every tree used in their products, more than two were replanted, nearly 1.5 million trees have been restored under this initiative.

Their Knaresborough store, one of the greenest retail stores in the UK, further underscores their dedication to sustainable practices. As a cherry on top, by 2021, the company achieved the status of "Carbon Neutral Plus", making them a trailblazer in the furniture industry.

Innovative Spaces and Expanding Horizons

Over the decades, Barker and Stonehouse didn't just expand in number, but in the quality and innovation of their spaces. From opening their iconic store in Battersea, London, which beautifully preserved the characteristics of an old candle factory, to their latest state-of-the-art Gateshead store in 2023, every location tells a story.

They have also ventured into digital realms, ensuring a vast online presence and offering a wide range of products to customers all over the UK. Their partnerships, like the one with Fenwick in 2021, illustrate their adaptability and constant quest to reach new audiences.
