Design. Designed by award-winning Philippe Starck, the Bubble Armchair will give a bold and modern boost to your garden or home. This piece is made from smooth batch-dyed polyethylene in Kartell’s signature moulded plastic design, making it soft to touch yet easy to wipe down. Display as a standalone feature or pair with the Kartell Bubble Sofa for a quirky and imaginative look.

Our Stylist Says

I’m a big fan of the Bubble chair - its bold, sculptural shape and matte black finish give it instant presence without overwhelming a room. Made from weather-resistant polypropylene, it’s as tough and easy to wipe clean as it is comfortable, so it works equally well in a sleek urban living room, a relaxed conservatory or even a covered terrace. For styling, balance its solid form with softer textures: drape a boucle throw over one arm and perch a wool cushion in a contrasting shade. Pair it with a slim-legged side table in brass or glass to emphasise its modern lines, and position it where natural light picks out its contours. Group two together for an informal conversation corner or let a single Bubble chair stand out against a pale wall as a statement piece.

About Barker and Stonehouse

Founded in 1946, Barker and Stonehouse offer a diverse range of stylish and timeless pieces. From contemporary to traditional designs, Barker and Stonehouse brings sophistication and comfort to every room.

A Remarkable Journey

Born from the vision of two young RAF men, Charles Barker and Alex Stonehouse, Barker and Stonehouse emerged as a beacon of hope, infusing post-war Britain with a hint of glamour. Starting from a single store in Stockton on Tees, their entrepreneurial spirit led to rapid expansion, opening multiple stores across the region.

Their fast growth was fueled not only by their flair for business but also by their dedication to innovation. The business transformed over the years, adapting to the changing landscapes of retail, all while preserving its charm and values. By 2021, they marked an impressive 75 years in the industry, a testament to their enduring commitment to quality and customer service.

Sustainability at the Forefront

From the very start, Barker and Stonehouse has held a deep commitment to the environment. This devotion was showcased through initiatives such as the Trees4Trees Project, a reforestation effort in Indonesia.

Ensuring that for every tree used in their products, more than two were replanted, nearly 1.5 million trees have been restored under this initiative.

Their Knaresborough store, one of the greenest retail stores in the UK, further underscores their dedication to sustainable practices. As a cherry on top, by 2021, the company achieved the status of "Carbon Neutral Plus", making them a trailblazer in the furniture industry.

Innovative Spaces and Expanding Horizons

Over the decades, Barker and Stonehouse didn't just expand in number, but in the quality and innovation of their spaces. From opening their iconic store in Battersea, London, which beautifully preserved the characteristics of an old candle factory, to their latest state-of-the-art Gateshead store in 2023, every location tells a story.

They have also ventured into digital realms, ensuring a vast online presence and offering a wide range of products to customers all over the UK. Their partnerships, like the one with Fenwick in 2021, illustrate their adaptability and constant quest to reach new audiences.
