Description

Kartell chairs have always been among the brands most successful products. Chairs, armchairs and stools have the ability to express and sum up, in one object, with total simplicity, the brands great style, strategic elements in bringing the Kartell Lifestyle to any space. Be bop by Ludovica + Roberto Palomba is a design which blends two different languages. An armchair that combines several expressions in a single vocabulary, tracing the lines of the most traditional carved African stools and merging them with the American design of the golden years, echoing the concept of curved multilayer plywood. The result is a cultured yet wild design: it is no mere coincidence that Be bop, its name, represents the jazz movement, characterised by fast tempo and innovative harmonies. The armchair features extraordinarily ergonomic lines, with a generous curved seat to ensure maximum comfort. Be bop is available in white, grey and black for indoor and outdoor versions and with a gold metal finish in the indoor version only.

Our Stylist Says

I’m really taken with the Be Bop chair for its clean lines and practical feel. The matt white shell sits nicely in minimalist, Scandi or contemporary interiors, acting as a bright focal point without dominating the room. Style it on a low-pile, neutral rug beside a slim oak side table and a leafy plant to introduce warmth and colour, or pair two together facing a simple coffee table for relaxed social seating. The moulded resin is easy to wipe clean - ideal for busy family spaces - and the gently curved shell offers surprisingly good back support. Add a slim floor lamp and a soft wool throw to turn it into a cosy reading nook.

About Barker and Stonehouse

Founded in 1946, Barker and Stonehouse offer a diverse range of stylish and timeless pieces. From contemporary to traditional designs, Barker and Stonehouse brings sophistication and comfort to every room.

A Remarkable Journey

Born from the vision of two young RAF men, Charles Barker and Alex Stonehouse, Barker and Stonehouse emerged as a beacon of hope, infusing post-war Britain with a hint of glamour. Starting from a single store in Stockton on Tees, their entrepreneurial spirit led to rapid expansion, opening multiple stores across the region.

Their fast growth was fueled not only by their flair for business but also by their dedication to innovation. The business transformed over the years, adapting to the changing landscapes of retail, all while preserving its charm and values. By 2021, they marked an impressive 75 years in the industry, a testament to their enduring commitment to quality and customer service.

Sustainability at the Forefront

From the very start, Barker and Stonehouse has held a deep commitment to the environment. This devotion was showcased through initiatives such as the Trees4Trees Project, a reforestation effort in Indonesia.

Ensuring that for every tree used in their products, more than two were replanted, nearly 1.5 million trees have been restored under this initiative.

Their Knaresborough store, one of the greenest retail stores in the UK, further underscores their dedication to sustainable practices. As a cherry on top, by 2021, the company achieved the status of "Carbon Neutral Plus", making them a trailblazer in the furniture industry.

Innovative Spaces and Expanding Horizons

Over the decades, Barker and Stonehouse didn't just expand in number, but in the quality and innovation of their spaces. From opening their iconic store in Battersea, London, which beautifully preserved the characteristics of an old candle factory, to their latest state-of-the-art Gateshead store in 2023, every location tells a story.

They have also ventured into digital realms, ensuring a vast online presence and offering a wide range of products to customers all over the UK. Their partnerships, like the one with Fenwick in 2021, illustrate their adaptability and constant quest to reach new audiences.
