Description

Kartell has blasted the ordinary weave chair into the future by creating the stunning Ami Ami chair in a range of popping colours. The Ami Ami, which literally means?to weave? in Japanese was born from the desire of its designer, Tokujin Yoshioka.?The chair's simple squared off lines contrast with the richness of the weaving. This is achieved on the inner and outer surfaces through a complex industrial process. Ami Ami aims to bring together the appeal of oriental culture and the use of innovative materials.?

Our Stylist Says

I love the Ami Ami for its playful yet minimalist design, making it a flexible choice in both modern and eclectic interiors. Its colourful, woven-like surface adds texture and visual interest without overwhelming a space. This chair works particularly well in contemporary dining rooms, kitchen nooks, or even as an accent piece in colourful or pared-back settings. Practical styling tips include pairing it with simple, understated tables to let the vibrant red stand out or mixing and matching with other coloured chairs to create a lively, casual vibe. The stackable feature makes it a practical choice for smaller spaces or for when hosting guests, without sacrificing style.

About Barker and Stonehouse

Founded in 1946, Barker and Stonehouse offer a diverse range of stylish and timeless pieces. From contemporary to traditional designs, Barker and Stonehouse brings sophistication and comfort to every room.

A Remarkable Journey

Born from the vision of two young RAF men, Charles Barker and Alex Stonehouse, Barker and Stonehouse emerged as a beacon of hope, infusing post-war Britain with a hint of glamour. Starting from a single store in Stockton on Tees, their entrepreneurial spirit led to rapid expansion, opening multiple stores across the region.

Their fast growth was fueled not only by their flair for business but also by their dedication to innovation. The business transformed over the years, adapting to the changing landscapes of retail, all while preserving its charm and values. By 2021, they marked an impressive 75 years in the industry, a testament to their enduring commitment to quality and customer service.

Sustainability at the Forefront

From the very start, Barker and Stonehouse has held a deep commitment to the environment. This devotion was showcased through initiatives such as the Trees4Trees Project, a reforestation effort in Indonesia.

Ensuring that for every tree used in their products, more than two were replanted, nearly 1.5 million trees have been restored under this initiative.

Their Knaresborough store, one of the greenest retail stores in the UK, further underscores their dedication to sustainable practices. As a cherry on top, by 2021, the company achieved the status of "Carbon Neutral Plus", making them a trailblazer in the furniture industry.

Innovative Spaces and Expanding Horizons

Over the decades, Barker and Stonehouse didn't just expand in number, but in the quality and innovation of their spaces. From opening their iconic store in Battersea, London, which beautifully preserved the characteristics of an old candle factory, to their latest state-of-the-art Gateshead store in 2023, every location tells a story.

They have also ventured into digital realms, ensuring a vast online presence and offering a wide range of products to customers all over the UK. Their partnerships, like the one with Fenwick in 2021, illustrate their adaptability and constant quest to reach new audiences.
