Feather filled back and base cushions offer comforting support which, combined with the relaxed tilt to the seat, encourage a laid back perch. I’m a fan of the Kalmar armchair in its seashell velvet because the muted, warm-grey tone and soft cotton pile give a refined yet cosy feel. It slots neatly into neutral, Scandi-inspired or transitional schemes and plays well against pale woods, linen drapes and natural-fibre rugs. For styling, position it beside a slimline side table with a minimalist lamp to create a reading nook, then layer in a contrasting textured cushion - think boucle or subtle wool - to break up the velvet’s sheen and add visual interest.
