I’m a fan of the Richmond bed for its clean, slatted headboard and subtle two-tone finish - the soft grey paint with oak-effect tops sits comfortably in modern farmhouse, Scandinavian or coastal schemes. Its straightforward lines mean it won’t date, and the slatted base removes the need for a separate divan, giving you useful under-bed clearance for storage boxes or baskets. For styling, keep bedding light and textural: a linen duvet set, a chunky knit throw and a mix of muted cushions work well. Pair with bedside tables that echo the oak tone and add matte-black or brass lamps to introduce a little contrast.

John Lewis started as a small shop on London's Oxford Street in 1864. Today, it's part of a bigger family called the John Lewis Partnership, which also includes Waitrose stores.
