New York taxi cabs and silhouetted characters make their way through Manhattan in this work by artist Jon Barker, mounted and framed. Born in Yorkshire in 1950, Jon Barker obtained a BA in Business Studies at university in Edinburgh and pursued a career in marketing management. Over a 20-year period from his mid-20s to his mid-40s he trained himself to paint to a professional standard. At that point, he left marketing and started to sell his work. Initially, he concentrated on his love for landscape but in recent years he is increasingly associated with his successful 'City Life' series, which aims to capture the moods of major cities of the world and, often, their iconic landmarks. Have you thought about wall hooks and fittings?
I really like the cityscape vibe of this black and white print-it brings a contemporary, urban edge to any space. Its size and framing make it ideal for large walls in living rooms or office areas, where it can serve as a focal point. The grey and multi tones are versatile, pairing well with modern interiors that feature neutral palettes, but it can also add contrast within more colourful or eclectic schemes. For styling tips, consider hanging it at eye level above a sofa or console table, and keep surrounding accessories minimalist to let the artwork stand out. It’s also a great piece to mix with other black and white art or monochrome accessories for a cohesive look.
