Description

Meet our X-Ray chair. Created for us by Danish design duo Says Who, renowned for compelling details and expert woodworking. Minimalism meets sculptural form: taking cues from Scandi-inspired design, its sleek frame is carved from solid and veneered oak with rounded edges and a subtle curve in the seat. We've added hardwearing woven polyester upholstery for comfort. When today's world places emphasis on flexible living, this chair really comes into its own. It's so versatile that you can style it around the house, from dining room to living room. Take your pick. Want to see it first? You may want to see and get a feel for the furniture in one of our shops before ordering. We'll be able to tell you where the range you'd like to view is on display.

Our Stylist Says

I’m a big fan of the X-Ray armchair for its clean lines and gentle mid-century nod - the slender walnut frame and neutral linen seat slot easily into both modern and Scandi-inspired schemes. It’s sturdy enough for daily dining yet light in appearance, so it won’t overwhelm smaller kitchens or breakfast nooks. For styling, mix it around a light oak or whitewashed table to keep the look fresh, or team two at the ends of a darker wood table for subtle contrast. Add a simple woven seat pad or small cushion in a muted petrol or terracotta hue to introduce a soft colour note, and ground the setting with a low-pile jute or sisal rug. Finish with a sculptural pendant light overhead and a few potted plants to bring out the natural warmth of the wood.

About John Lewis

Founded in 1864, John Lewis is a trusted and beloved brand where you can find a diverse range of furniture for every style and budget, alongside finding the perfect item that reflects your personal taste.

A Legacy of Innovation and Inclusion

John Lewis started as a small shop on London's Oxford Street in 1864. Today, it's part of a bigger family called the John Lewis Partnership, which also includes Waitrose stores.

What makes them special is that they're owned by their employees, known as 'Partners'. The idea, from the beginning, was to give everyone a say in how the business was run. With over 74,000 Partners (employees) at the heart of its operations, the essence of John Lewis's vision, from over a century ago, still echoes today being the largest employee-owned venture.

Adapting to Changing Times

Like many stores, John Lewis has had to change with the times. They've closed some shops but have grown their online business a lot, especially when more people started shopping online during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their history is filled with key moments, like buying Peter Jones in 1905, adding Waitrose in 1937, and starting their website in 2001. They've always tried to adapt and stay relevant.

Commitment to a Greater Purpose

John Lewis believes in doing good and making the world a better place. This is seen in the way they treat their employees and customers. For example, in 2021, they were the first big UK store to give parents six months paid leave when they have a baby and two weeks paid leave if they lose a pregnancy. They've been around for over a century and always aim to do the right thing by everyone.
